This week we are going to play our first game. Before we get to our first game, we are going to learn a few basic mates and learn about chess clocks. The attached lesson allows you to see how to start a game with the Dragon Opening and the London System. The lesson also starts giving a hint to the question, what do I do when the opening is over? If you have time, I recommend you set up a board and play through the explanation of the openings before class. (pages 10,15,16,17) This will familiarize you with chess notation and give you an impression of how chess players maneuver and try to capture the center.
